Angel statistics

Monday, April 4th, 2011

Now, for a post dedicated to two of my favorite things… Angel and Statistics:

I’ve got all my DVDs registered on my computer, and each time I watch a movie or an episode I give it my personal rating on a scale from 1 to 10 (10 being best).

So without further ado I give you the statistics for Joss Whedon’s Angel:

First, the average rating for each season. And as you can see Season 2 and 4 is awesome =)

Below is a chart of all episodes, click to enlarge:

I’m on German TV

Wednesday, March 30th, 2011

I think I’m in a German TV commercial for Fedcon 2011, a Sci-fi convention I’m going to in a month (It’s going to be awesome) :)

Someone recognized me in the video and was kind enough to send me an email (Thanks to Dietrich, which I met at fedcon 2009, he makes all sorts of really cool replicas) I was almost tempted to steal his Grays sports almanac, but I’m no Biff Tannen so instead I got myself 2 magnets for my kitchen (“Main Fridge”, and “Deep Freeze 9″) :D

From Fedcon 2009

And without further ado, here I am at 00:16 with Admiral Adama and Colonel Tigh

Really looking forward to going to Düsseldorf this easter :)

DVD anti piracy ads

Friday, January 14th, 2011

I just saw Scott Pilgrim VS The World, and to sum it up in a one word review: Awesometastic!

Now one thing that really delightfully surprised me before the movie even started was the lack of those moronic anti piracy ads they put in front of nearly every DVD.

You know the one.. “You wouldn’t steal a handbag, etc…” The one that makes your gut wrench and just fills you with anger and contempt in the 0.2 seconds it takes you to recognize the music.

That awful thing they put on DVD’s to tell the people who bought it not to steal it. The big slap in the face for people who are actually BUYING DVD’s. The tiny video clip (file) which pirates never even rip from the DVD’s when making an illegal copy. The biggest (by far) factor that just pisses me off before the film, and actually makes me want to buy LESS DVD’s.

Well, enough about that.. Just writing about it makes me all pissed and misanthropic.

The DVD Scott Pilgrim from Universal Studios / Universal Pictures however has an interesting twist.

Thank You Universal

Instead of reminding the nice customer not to steal, they actually “Thank You” for supporting the movie industry by buying it..

That just totally made my day.. Thank YOU Universal :)

Stargate Universe Canceled

Thursday, December 16th, 2010

I just learned that stargate universe has been canceled. This brings me both joy and sadness.

The joy comes from the fact that I moderately hate SGU, as I may have mentioned before.

To summarize quickly: SGU has NONE of the characteristics of SG1 or Atlantis which I love immensely. None of the Star gate humor, none of the great friendships and cooperation between characters, and science fiction driven stories with lots of adventure, with the exception of Eli, I pretty much disliked everyone of the SGU characters, and if I wanted to watch constant fighting I would watch one of the countless other “reality” shows.

I don’t mind change, but what was the point of calling the show Stargate when it was just a drama series in space which tried (and failed) at copying elements from Battlestar Galatica, Reality television and Lost. If it had been called “Alien ship drama”, I would not have minded it at all, I just would not have watched it, along with lots of other people, which leads me to the proposition that the only reason to append the Star Gate name to SGU was to trick people into watching a totally unrelated show.

I’m also still bitter for the fact that Stargate Atlantis was canceled, and THIS was what we got instead.. This seems to be a common phenomena of SG1/SGA fans, even to the point where Brad Wright actually blames SG-1/SGA fans for hurting SGU. I somehow doubt the blogs and forums where people have been critical of SGU was the cause of the huge and constant drop in viewers. Personally I count at least 20 science fiction shows that I LOVE.. And I only hate a single one (guess which). There are just no redeeming elements of SGU (except the mere fact that it takes place on a space ship).

The sadness comes out of sympathy, while I personally don’t like seeing the Stargate name dragged through the mud, there are (believe it or not) a lot of people that actually love SGU, however I don’t think any of the sci-fi geeks I know were particularly sad to see it go.

I do feel for all you guys who really liked it, cause like most/all sci-fi fans I know all to well how much it sucks when a show you like gets canceled. And there are after all far worse crap on TV than SGU, Sy-fy keeps airing Ghost Hunters, and Oprah even got her own channel.

In conclusion, I feel a little bad about my Schadenfreude, after all why should I care about what other people watch? I don’t really,. I”m just disappointed in that SGU for me and many others did not live up to the previous shows (or any sci-fi show for that matter), and that it reduces the average quality of the Stargate franchise.

Loot from play.com

Saturday, October 30th, 2010

Yay, yesterday I got some loot from play.com, The BSG box I have to wrap up and keep my dirty hands off until christmas though :/

Dollhouse Battlestar Galactica Bluray

Dollhouse + BSG + Dr Horrible on bluray, season 2 of the guild and the first two seasons of Mash :)

Felicia Day Dollhouse comic

The Dollhouse box even came with a TINY comic with Felicia day, which I must say is a cute little bonus :)

Guild City

Saturday, July 10th, 2010

I was inspired by Dani’s The Guild mashups, and wanted to make one of a Sin City poster/dvd cover.. Instead I ended up with a Sin City inspired wallpaper.

The Guild wallpaper

Since this was originally supposed to be a mash up of the movie poster, Clara was to be edited in last. However as I changed my mind in the middle and made a desktop background, the element where she was supposed to be did not work well for a wallpaper.. And adding her in with the rest of the cast would at this point mean making the whole picture from scratch :/

10 points to the first who spots the little “photoshop disaster” :)

Ze movies!

Saturday, February 13th, 2010

It’s been way to long since I did any movie reviews, so I’ll have to do a short update on Movies I’ve seen lately.

Men Who Stare At Goats
The trailer portrayed this one as pretty funny and interesting, but the trailer contains about 80% of the comedy in the movie and the rest is pretty booring.
Rating: 2.5 / 10

Avatar
Avatar!

I must say I was rather skeptical as the last big hit movies that everyone is raving about turned out to be crap. But I gave it a chance, if it sucked at least there would be nice graphics and 3D. But I must say even though the plot is a bit simple and neat, this movie is kick ass. The plot is nice and tidy, characters are great and the 3 hours go by quickly because the movie never ceases to be interesting and/or exciting. I will definitively go back to the cinema and watch it one more time in 3D before they stop showing it.
Rating: 9.4 / 10

X-Men Origins: Wolverine
My expectations were very low for this one, but it was actually pretty good of showing the origins of Wolverine, can’t wait for Magneto :)
Rating: 6 / 10

Terminator Salvation
This is by far the worst Terminator film made, boring and does not really feel like a Terminator film.. It does have some nice effects though, and is mildly entertaining at periods.
Rating: 3 / 10

Transformers 2 (Revenge of the Fallen)
Wow.. Even though my expectations were pretty much as low as they go (the previous Transformers movie was a piece of crap with an idiotic plot, boring as hell and with lame ass characters), this movie is actually so bad and retarded that it actually put me to sleep even though I was not tired (must have been the brains natural defense mechanism).
Now why would I watch Transformers 2 when I hated the first one you might ask? I’ll tell you.. It was a gift, and I was hoping to see some cool effects, after all who doesn’t love robots? But even in that department the movie is a huge disappointment, the first one actually have cooler and more interesting effects.
Rating: 0.8 / 10

UP
I feel ripped off! The trailer portrays this as a funny movie filled with humor.. The humor is there but it’s miles apart, and completely drowned out by the sadness of the movie, which came like a shock when expecting a comedy :(
Rating: 4 / 10

Zombieland
Veeeery skeptical, with the horrible “Dead Snow” still fresh in memory I did not really want to even see a comedy zombie movie. But it quickly became apparent that this movie was quite good, not exactly Shaun of the dead, but still very enjoyable with lovely characters.

Stargate universe DOES suck

Monday, December 7th, 2009

A while back I made a post about the new Stargate Universe show, a show which I like most other Stargate fans expected to be a Science Fiction show.

At first I was skeptical, but hang in there because many shows start slow. But now I’ve just seen episode 10, and I must say, this show DOES SUCK.. It’s like they tried to copy Battlestar Galactica + Lost + Grey’s Anatomy. SGU is not a science fiction show, it’s basically Grey’s Anatomy or Desperate Housewives in a dark studio with the occasional boring trip trough a stargate to a lifeless world where they do nothing at all.

sga

I was hoping the show would get better, but it’s just getting worse by every episode (except for episode 8 which reminded me a little bit about science fiction).

I will be very surprised if this huge pile of crap gets renewed for a second season.

I have no problems with people making drama shows, what I do have a problem with is that they change a sci-fi show into a bad drama show in a desperate hope to get stargate fans to watch it. Anyway I think I’ve watched my last episode of this crap, I gave it a fair chance but I’d rather watch SG-1 or Atlantis again.

2012

2012

I went to the cinema last night and saw 2012, and it was pretty awesome.

The movie itself and the plot was ok, except for some bad physics at moments, but then again I didn’t go to the cinema for a great story.

I just like seeing things being smashed, torn, destroyed, burned, exploded, destroyed and utterly demolished :)

This movie got very nice CGI destruction, albeit comically exaggerated at times, and it’s worth watching this one in the cinema just for the awesome destruction :)
