Angel statistics

Monday, April 4th, 2011

Now, for a post dedicated to two of my favorite things… Angel and Statistics:

I’ve got all my DVDs registered on my computer, and each time I watch a movie or an episode I give it my personal rating on a scale from 1 to 10 (10 being best).

So without further ado I give you the statistics for Joss Whedon’s Angel:

First, the average rating for each season. And as you can see Season 2 and 4 is awesome =)

Below is a chart of all episodes, click to enlarge:

DVD anti piracy ads

Friday, January 14th, 2011

I just saw Scott Pilgrim VS The World, and to sum it up in a one word review: Awesometastic!

Now one thing that really delightfully surprised me before the movie even started was the lack of those moronic anti piracy ads they put in front of nearly every DVD.

You know the one.. “You wouldn’t steal a handbag, etc…” The one that makes your gut wrench and just fills you with anger and contempt in the 0.2 seconds it takes you to recognize the music.

That awful thing they put on DVD’s to tell the people who bought it not to steal it. The big slap in the face for people who are actually BUYING DVD’s. The tiny video clip (file) which pirates never even rip from the DVD’s when making an illegal copy. The biggest (by far) factor that just pisses me off before the film, and actually makes me want to buy LESS DVD’s.

Well, enough about that.. Just writing about it makes me all pissed and misanthropic.

The DVD Scott Pilgrim from Universal Studios / Universal Pictures however has an interesting twist.

Thank You Universal

Instead of reminding the nice customer not to steal, they actually “Thank You” for supporting the movie industry by buying it..

That just totally made my day.. Thank YOU Universal :)

Dvd collection

I tried out a couple of programs for managing your DVD collection lately. The choice fell on eXtreme Movie Manager. Adding movies and tv shows by importing from IMDB worked nicely.

Extreme Movie Manager

I really like the tv series part, where I can list all the tv series I have, order by rating, etc..

You can also export your collection to a html page like this

or to a simple list.

Crysis scare!

Friday, November 16th, 2007

I got my new computer set up now, with two XFX 8800GTS in SLI, and imagine my horror when Crysis refused to install:

Error 1335. The cabinet file ‘Object~1.cab’ required for
this installation is corrupt and cannot be used. This
could indicate a network error, an error reading from
the CD-ROM, or a problem with this package

I tried installing it 3 times and then I gave up, asuming the DVD was damaged. I played Call of Duty 4 for a few hours (pretty neat campaign so far).
Then I tried googleling the error message and found out I’m not the only one who had this problem.

I tried the simplest of the solution first (disabling my AVG antivirus software) and hey presto, Crysis installed without problems :)

why I love VLC

Monday, February 12th, 2007

Last night I was about to watch an episode of Stargate Atlantis from a DVD, for some reason the dvd player in my computer had problems reading it (the read speed was severely reduced 2 times every minute) and as a result the video went very choppy and skipped like 3-5 seconds 2 times every minute..

I tried playing the dvd in both my Playstation 2 and the DVD player (the box under my tv), but none of these would play the dvd as it is the “wrong region”..

Thankfully VLC (the best player ever) has a function that makes it buffer X amount of milliseconds ahead when playing a dvd, so I set this to 15’000 ms, and could finally watch the episode.

VLC has a bunch of useful features, so if your stuck with winamp, powerDVD and other shitty players, try VLC.. it’s GRRRREAT!
