Seeing that my homemade air conditioner was not powerful enough to cool down the living room (it only had 2000 of the 14’000 required BTU/H), I took the copper coil off the fan, and turned it into a water cooled bed for the ferrets
The bed holds a comfortable 16-18 degrees Celsius.
This is nice for the little weasels, seeing they can’t sweat to get cooler.
Holy crap, it’s like 30 degrees outside.. And we all know what that means?
Well at least I do.. It means the apartment will smell like wet weasels.
For those of you who have never experienced the smell of a soaking wet Mustelidae or other small carnivorous mammal, it smells GREAT! It’s like a party in your nose, and everyone is invited.
We bought this sandbox/mini pool from Toys’R'Us last year, and have been using it as a sandbox for the ferrets for a while, however the last months it’s been filled with blankets, tubes, toys and stuff.
We had a plastic pool before, however we we’re afraid to use it at our new place as it is not hard plastic like the new one..
Even at our old place using the pool was not for the faint of heart, seeing that at any second the pool could have a IMMINENT STRUCTURAL FAILURE which would result in about 100 liters of water exploring every square cm of our relatively small apartment. But now that we actually own the apartment and have hardwood floors, it’s better to stay on the safe side.
Even Buffy, who never even tried bathing before jumped right in and had a great time
Pinky was to the vet Tuesday and was neutered. So any chances she ever had of becoming a ferretmom just became infinitesimal. She is still a bit dozy from the operation and sleeps alot, but she should be back to her good old self in a couple of days.
Her tummy was shaved, and there are like 3 stitches
I just got back from Austria, and on the way back I got to pick up the newest member of the family.
Einherjer is a 8 weeks old ferret kit, that we got from Infinitys Ferret breeder, we’ve only had her for two days, and she is getting along great with Pinky (Nemi is another story, but they seem to get betting along better now. Nemi is pretty much devoid of any kind of ferret-to-ferret social skills).
Einherjer is very kind, trusting and fun, and here are a couple of pictures. While Einherjer is the breeder’s name, we will call her Buffy (yes, as in Buffy the vampire slayer)
The last week I have been finishing up the online registration system for Nidarosilder, a local ferret show here in Trondheim that we are attending in early September.
The system runs on jsp and postgresql and allows user to register, then they receive a password they use to log in. When logged in they enter their name and other info, and can add up to 20 ferrets. Also my friend Anne who organizes the show has a admin page where she can see all users/ferrets, and sorted displays to make it easier to set up the different classes for the show.
Seeing that the ferret system was ready thursday, I got to spend most of this long weekend (Dont have to work monday 12th because of some religion thingy) on my Startrek game.
I debugged the Research system, and had some problems with the object serialization between the server and the client (ObjectOutputStream.writeUnshared() only writes the ROOT object unshared.. I learned that the hard way). I also made the client show a counter that counts to next game turn, a animation that shows while downloading map data, I implemented the Order system, and now it is possible to move a starship.
Below you can see a federation fleet moving to sector 3:7 (the yellow dots show the path)
Thursday 22. I will be going to Austria with the people from work, so maybe then I will have the time to implement the build system when there =)
Pinky was away with Anne and Erik this week, at the RoseIldern ferret show in Molde. She was gone in what seemed like forever (49,5 hours), and we are really glad to have her back
She came back with two prices (Second place in her category, and BEST albino/white in the entire show with around 200 ferrets)
She also won some swag (a nice glass thropy for best albino, kibbles, toys and hammocks)
