Chocolate drink blind testing

Friday, May 7th, 2010

I saw a new chocolate drink (Q sjokolademelk) with the advertisement “Norways Best” written on the package in the store a couple of days ago, so I decided to do a blind test with that and 3 other brands of chocolate milk.

I tested the 4 brands at 4 tests, and rated them on a scale from 1 (worst) to 10 (best). Special thanks to Stacy for being the lab assistant, making sure everything was double blinded :)

As the results show, the new “Best in Norway” chocolate milk tasted like crap, while the one I usually buy (Tine sjokomelk) was beaten by a small margin by Litago (also from “Tine”). At least my regular brand had a very low standard deviation . The winners were “Litago original sjokolademelk” and “Litago lettere sjokolademelk”, with the latter having a lower standard deviation (consistently yummy) and being crowned the winner of the test:

A yummy vegetarian recipe

Sunday, March 22nd, 2009

Here is the recipe for one of my favorite dinners:

Ingredients:

Instructions:

1. Put the frying pan on medium heat and thaw the sausages, when they are no longer frosen take them out of the pan and slice them up. Turn up the heat a bit and fry them until they are done. Then take them out of the pan.
step1

2. Add some margarine to the pan, and fry the mushrooms until they are done, like the sausages take these out of the pan. Remember to season the mushrooms (pepper for example)
step2

3. Slice up the Zucchini and the Red bell pepper and fry in the margarine left from the mushrooms
step3

4. When the Zucchini and pepper is almost done, add the corn and seasoning of choice (I prefer celery salt and chilil mixes)
step4

5. When the corn, zucchini and red bell pepper is done, add the sausages to warm them up
step5

6. Lastly you add the mushrooms. Let it fry for a minute or two so that everything gets heated
step6

Serve with pasta, rice or whatever you’d like. The result = nom nom :)

Icy Slush

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

Goddammit, yesterday I was conned into buying a product called ‘Icy slush’ where you freeze 6 bags of cola flavored syrup and you’re supposed to get 6 portions of slush from said freezing.. BULLSHIT.

  1. The consistency is no where near “slush”, I might as well have frozen a regular freeze-it-yourself ice pop
  2. The cola flavor sucks, I’ve probably tasted around 7-8 different kinds of cola favored ice pop, and this is the only one I did not like.
  3. Not only does it taste like crap.. There is a weird kind of nauseating chemical (and not chemical in a good sense) aftertaste which made me sick after two spoonfuls.

Ice Slush sucks donkey balls

Hot chocolate showdown part 2

Tuesday, December 4th, 2007

The final part of the hot chocolate showdown, 4 new candidates:

kakao 2

Results (left to right)

Options Where the most expensive of the brands, and comes in a fancy container, the contents however is kind of a letdown, the chocolate taste was to dark and had a weird taste, just a few teaspoons where a bit nauseating.

Toro Rett i koppen (lett) Is not as good as the original version which was the best of the 7 brands. It has a after-taste which vaguely reminds of coffee (which I hate), but after a few sips the aftertaste is gone.

Eldorado Sjokodrikk is a low-priced brand, and tastes a bit watery with bland chocolate taste and an artificial sweetness.

Confecta is an extremely low calorie hot chocolate, and when I slurped some into my mouth I had the following sensation: “Oh my, I think I accidentally drank industrial waste, I better spit it out quickly, because whatever taste like this can’t be healthy”. It’s the worst hot chocolate, or hot beverage I’ve ever had. The taste is actually quite intriguing, it’s a bit like metal mixed with some kind of weird chemical / detergent / industrial raw material.

Hot chocolate showdown part 1

Sunday, December 2nd, 2007

Today I tried out 3 kinds of hot chocolate mixes, and rated them on a scale from 1 to 6 where 6 being the best :)

kakao

All the drinks where made exactly after the instructions, and the results are (from left to right):

O’boy was very mild, and a bit sweet. It has a kind of milky taste to it

Regia Express kakao was good and a bit similar to Toro, but only received 4/6 because the chocolate taste was to dark and I personally don’t care for dark chocolate. It also felt a bit powdery

Toro Rett i koppen was the best so far with 5/6 points. The chocolate flavor was perfect and it was sweeter than the Regia brand.
