Far Cry

Saturday, February 17th, 2007

Just completed the last level (Volcano) of Far cry. Taking down Krieger was pretty hard, and took like 20 tries.

After that, I got to the center of the volcano (Big open space with double doors and 4-5 of those big nasty Trigens with rocket launchers.

After trying to do this part for like 30 times, I kinda cheated (that is I found a little tip), where you push a chair under a big door to prevent it from closing.. I could then kill the Trigens that came waiting outside the door, and still had access to a fully stocked armory :)

Getting past the 6 guards with grenade launchers was pretty easy using a few grenades, and then.. Cutscene and relax =)

I only played the game on Normal and had no problems until the end.. Damn the last level of the game is hard.. I don’t believe for a second it is possible to do the last level on the hardest difficulty and not using the “chair trick”.

The game itself is without a doubt the best FPS I’ve ever played, great story, great sound/music, and the graphics is legendary. The actual shooting part, weapons, AI, physics, are all GREAT.

Gamespot rated this game with only 9.2, but I’m going to be generous and give it a

Voyage Century Online

Tuesday, December 26th, 2006

So, tempted by a banner over at CAD, I downloaded the free online game “Voyage Century Online“, a game where you play a pirate on land and water (with your own ship). The graphics was ok, but after playing around with the game for a couple of hours I deleted it.

The quest text where severely lacking, skill system seems kind of boring, and the actual ship to ship battle system is terrible (auto-aim and very boring battles, even Monkey Island 3 has a better ship vs. ship minigame), moving the character on land was not much better; (left-click to walk) which sometimes did not respond properly.

The whole thing ended in me being sunk while running into someone who where fighting pirates (actually collided with his boat). Chat text is on the left of the screenshot

Ship Simultor 2006

Tuesday, December 12th, 2006

For some reason I have been trying out a game called Ship Simulator 2006, the game involves steering different ships around (racing boats, tugboats, cargo ships, cruise ships, etc..).

Ship Simulator 2006

The concept is pretty good, and driving a huge cargoship around the port can be pretty funny, at least for a while.. The game fail to have any real missions, every mission consists of: Start at point X, drive close to points A, B, C and Return to point Y. And that gets really boring after a while.

The graphics is so-so, water has nice texture and reflection but is completely flat/2D. The landscapes around are not really that good. The AI of the other ships on the ocean are really horrible (they only seem to follow simple waypoints), and the game is missing radar, decent GPS, sonar/depth display.

Overall the game has about 2-4 hours of fun in it (at least if you like ships), but if you really want the taste of salt in your mouth then you better fire up Silent Hunter 3, turn up the volume and set the weather conditions to the worst possible.

Tuesday gaming bonanza

Tuesday, October 17th, 2006

Sooo, to make the most of days before I start working (tomorrow), I decided to catch up on some gameing.

Oblivion
Still got lots of quests I havent done, so I wandered around with my sneaky little assassin, robbing vampires blind and doing some of the side-quests.

Battlefield 2142
I tried the demo for a couple of hours, did not really like it, the constant disconnects also did not help.. Would rather play BF2 if I had to play a FPS

Company of Heroes
Only started playing this a bit, but so far it seems very nice, and should keep me busy on the RTS front until the next Command & Conquer game is ready

Defcon
“Shall we play a game?”, the wargames quotes aside, this is a really nifty strategy game, up to 6 players play on a word map, and must nuke the hell out of eachother without suffering to many losses. The game is fairly simple, and has a nice interface, good graphics and music.. download the demo and try it yourself. This is the game I played the most the last couple of days
