Google face recognition (in picasa) is very good at finding out who a person is, however it’s not as good at finding out who a person is not. In other words after it’s had a few images to analyze, it might give you a few weird suggestions:

5 of the faces above where identified as My girlfriend, and 1 as me..
I of course was the Japanese girl
But at least I’m kinda dating Nathan Fillion

Two days ago something WONDERFUL happened:
These old horrible dark, depressing winter air photos of Trondheim got replaced by new high resolution summer-time ones
Before:

After:

Why do I care you might ask?
Because I love maps, and I spend an unhealthy amount of time at Google maps =)
Google also finally got street view coverage to Tiller (the souther part of Trondheim where I live). I can even see my motorcycle parked outside:

To my great dismay searching for “Meerkat projection” always ends in disappointment:

I’ve always thought of meerkats whenever Mercator projection came up, so I just had to do this to get it out of my head:

PS: This computer does not have photoshop, and my GIMP skills sucks, so only the northern pole is EMBIGGIFIED (yes, it’s a word).
PPS: That image reminds me of the Star Trek TOS pilot, “The Cage”.. BOW BEFORE YOUR MEERKAT OVERLORDS!

- Gmail
- Google talk
- Android
- Youtube
- Google maps
- Google Calendar
- Google reader
Stuff I use often (weekly):
- Google Documents

- Google checkout
- Google translate
Stuff I sometimes use:
- Google adwords
- Google Latitude
- Web toolkit
- Panoramio
- Google Sketchup

I love google analytics*, it’s great and awesome in all sorts of ways that I won’t go into right now, instead allow me to present some funny search queries that have all somehow led people to this blog.
*For those of you who didn’t know, Google Analytics is a way to know how many people visit your website, what they search for, or where they come from, etc…
variations of “stargate universe sucks” - 1100 hits
variations of “new star trek movie sucks” – 1800 hits
So far so good, at least there are a few people out there with good taste, but it is when you get down to the more unique searches, those with only a few hits that you find the weird stuff.. Apparently even tough Stargate Universe sucks, somebody on the show has huge (or big) tits
Stargate universe big tits - 13
stargate universe girl with big tits - 6
“stargate universe” “big tits” - 2
big tits on sgu - 2
big tits stargate universe -3
girl with big tits on stargate universe - 1
actress with the huge tits on stargate universe - 1
who is the girl with the big tits on stargate universe? - 1
biggest tits on stargate universe - 1
chick with huge tits on stargate universe - 1
sgu stargate universe big tits - 1
star gate universe big tits - 1
stargate universe huge tits - 1
sgu kills off big tits?- 1
stargate universe chick with huge tits- 1
stargate universe chick with big tits- 5
I can only assume they are looking for pictures of Julia Benson:

Hmmm. I just realized that due to it’s questionable content, this post will undoubtedly attract more hits from people with nothing better to do than googling for Julia Bensons boobs..
So I might just as well throw in another picture, I’d hate for people to leave here empty handed.

Some other weird searches with only 1 hit
why do the shields on the enterprise suck?
– I have no idea, the real question is why would somebody write that phrase in a search engine?
mexican knick knacks
– I bet this guy was especially disappointed with my blog
why are everyone in stargate universe morons?
- I… Don’t… Know…
all video editing software sucks and makes no sense at all
- You should stick to pictures, they are simpler to wrap your head around
best brand donkey balls chocolates
- I’m afraid to even comment on this one
fedcon convention swine flu
- Hah! I see I was not the only one worried about swine flu duing fedcon 2009. Not so much worried about catching it, as guests not showing up
feed trondheim
- I’m definitely going to be keeping an eye out for starving children
jello shot launcher
- Let me know if you find one!
ms paint police
- These guys should have a SWAT unit!

I’ve always hated MSN (Windows Live Messenger) but “everyone” I know uses it. But today I decided to delete my MSN account, something I’ve wanted to do for years
Why?
- The default (microsoft) client is horrible, so you have to use a different client like pidgin
- My account was created way back when you had to use a hotmail account to do it, and having a hotmail account is actually quite embarrassing.
- It’s a closed format, so when Microsoft changes something, all the clients that does not sucks breaks, and closed formats are ideologically incompatible with the concept of a free and open Internet.
- I hate Microsoft, and by the laws of transitivity everything they make.
- By using the Live Messenger protocol, you can only talk to other users of MSN live messenger. Using Live Messenger is like having a Hotmail account that you can only use to send/receive emails from other Hotmail users. Nobody would use such a limited and retarded mail service, but for some reason people are OK with using a IM service that works like this.
The alternative

The only viable alternative was to go with XMPP, which is an open and standardized protocol which anyone can use. XMPP is pretty much like email, anyone can set up a server and anyone who has an XMPP account can contact anyone else who has a XMPP account no matter which server they use.
The choice of server was between jabber.org or Google (there are thousands of other XMPP servers you can use, but these are the largest ones), but since jabber.org’s registration page was down while they were moving their servers, and I already have a Google chat account (which uses XMPP), the choice was pretty simple

I was checking out Sven’s page, and found his awesome map of trails (“greenlanes”) in his neighborhood.
I have my own map, but this is on my google maps, so not really very user friendly or manageable, so today I decided to try and use the google maps API.

I’m pretty pleased with the result, a single .html file with almost only javascript. Now I can just export the paths and add a single line in the .html file and the new track will be added to the maps and menu. I’m going to add sorting of the tracks by difficulty, length and maybe based on their distance from Trondhiem sometimes later.
The page is very easy to use, and if you want to make a list of tracks (or any form of lines), just check out the page source code which has 3 simple instructions on how to get it working
I probably won’t be adding many tracks until around the start of May.

I was in bergen two weeks ago, doing part 1 of getting my sailing certificate.
Friday 06:00
For a man who woke up at 04:15, I feel remarkably… like myself
The buss from the city to the airport took around an hour, I’m now at gate 41, and got like 10-20 minutes
before boarding starts.
bah time for boarding.. I barely had time to start up eclipse…
Friday 09:00
The flight only took an hour, and the buss in to the city took 30 minutes.. then 15 minutes to find the hotel.
Would only have been 4 minutes If I had brought a compass
Friday 13:00
The hotel is pretty nice (P-hotels.no), and I just slept for a couple of hours (which I sorely needed), and woke up
at 12:00 by the pizza being delivered to my room.
The sailing doesn’t start until 17:30, the only thing I have to do by then is to buy some shoes I can sail in
I only brought my flipflops, and thankfully the weather report seems to be accurate, and the whole weekend
should have sunny weather.
The hotel only has unsecured wireless network, so I’m currently ssh’ing to my server and using bitlbee + irssi
to be on msn. Thank thor gmail is availible trough https
Friday 22:00
Just got back from the sailing, it was just a quick run outside bergen where we got to know the boat and
did some basic stuff like setting sail, and such..

Now I can stay in bed and watch an episode of Six feet under at the same time as stacy watches the same episode
back home
Saturday 20:00
I got to the sailing at 10:00, and we practiced parking the boat by the dock a few times, then we
headed out and did some sailing outside Bergen..

Sunday
Today we got some wind and where probably sailing at around 5-6 knots at the top.

When I got back to the hotel I had some pizza for dinner, I bought it from an Italian place just next to the
hotel, and it was 10 times better than the pizza I had last night (and 1/4 of the price). Dolly dimples sucks
like a neutron star.

I hit the sack pretty early, as again I had to be up at around 05:00 for the flight back to Trondheim.

I had a very funny read this lunch, when I checked my igoogle page and saw what the news feeds had in store for me:

The first one I saw was “Demands 21 years custody for Khan”, this is the maximum penalty in Norway and with a big smirk on my face I considered calling Kirk and giving him the good news.
What really made me laugh out loud was a line above, saying “Look at MS Explorer sinking”
