3 zombie films you should never watch

Monday, July 7th, 2008

I saw 4 zombie films since the last time I posted a movie review, well admittedly only one was a TRUE zombie film in my opinion, but that’s besides the point. Anyhow, here are the reviews.

I am Legend
For some reason, I cant even begin to phantom why, I decided to temporarily lift the ban on Will Smith (*spit*) movies and watch this movie. In retrospect I should have trusted the gut feeling which said ‘Don’t do it you fucking idiot, what the hell are you thinking?!’. Either way the damage is done, I watched it and it sucked. Have you ever heard what doctors often say, “the brain has a miraculous ability to heal”. Well this must be true, cause I cant remember shit about the movie except that it SUCKED, and that lifting a Will Smith (*spit*curse*) ban is no longer an option.

Doomsday
Unlike a certain shitty movie listed above, this movie started out pretty good. But from about the middle of the movie, when the punk gang and Renaissance fair crew make their appearance it’s a steady drop until rock bottom is hit, with the very forced, completely ridiculous and utterly LAME car chase in the end.

Planet Terror
Hehe, this is the funniest zombie I’ve seen since Shaun of the dead. Well It’s the only humorous zombie film I’ve seen since Shaun of the dead, but still.. The movie is very entertaining, the violence is great and the story is much better than doomsday + I am Legend put together. Great acting, special effects, etc..

Diary of the dead
Damn.. I really expected more from Romero. I know it’s independently produced, low budget and all that.. But the story was lame, the characters where uninteresting (except for the brief appearance of the deaf Amish) and the movie was just a big yawn. The concept of a video-diary from a zombie event could have been pretty cool, however this movie totally fails to deliver.

Conclusion, zombie movies of lately genereally seems to suck. The only time I was even remotely frightened by the movies above was each time I saw Will Smiths face in I am Legend.

Curse of the where-rabbit

A few nights ago me and Stacy saw Wallace & Gromit: The curse of the Were-rabbit (again). I really LOVE that movie, and that was probably the fifth time I saw it, and it’s still great. The story is excellent, the animation perfect, and the atmosphere in each scene is totally awesome.. The humor is great and the movie has lots of cute little bunnies.. What more does a movie need??

This is the first full length Wallace & Gromit movie, and the quality is way ahead of the shorter films (which are also great).

If you havent seen this movie, then you really DO NEED to see it.. If I could only recommend a single movie out of all the movies I have ever seen, this would definatly be it.

The Triangle

We recently got some loot from play.com, mostly stacy’s crap, but also a miniseries “The Triangle” about a group of people hired to explore the Bermuda triangle, it was a bit long (around 4 hours), but it was a quite enjoyable sci-fi/thriller movie. The ending was also rather good :)

Yay! look what I found in the store a couple of days ago
Star Wreck
If your a science fiction fan, and haven’t seen it yet, you can download this fan film at starwreck.com.

Note, the movie has Finnish audio, but has really cool effects and great humor :) the story is a mix of Star Trek and Babylon 5 (quite literally). If you don’t see this movie, you WILL get eye cancer.

300

Tuesday, April 10th, 2007

Daaamn, I saw 300 last night on the cinema, and it kicked ass.. I actually want to see it again today!

I had high expectations after the last Frank Miller based movie (Sin City), and tough 300 started out kind of slow, it really lived up to this expectation.

The story itself is pretty simple, but it’s filled with excellent characters and lots of beautiful violence :)

The movie has received some criticism for not being historically correct, and for making Persian or ‘The Glorious Nation of Iran’ look like a bunch of barbarian monsters.
First of all, of course it’s not very historically correct.. It is a story about 300 heroic good-guys fighting hordes of bad-guys, if I wanted to watch Discovery or National Geographics I would have stayed at home.
And regarding Irans complaint.. What the hell?? they complain that a fictional movie about Persians 2500 years ago make them look bad? I really doubt the vacation paradise that is Iran is going to lose any respect from the rest of the world because of this movie.. The same reason I can’t loose my giant pink elephant.

Apocalypto

Saturday, April 7th, 2007

I saw Apocalypto last night. Considering the last movie from Gibson that I saw was that Passion of the Christ crap, I was really expecting the worst out of this movie.. But to my big surprise the movie was not all that bad, it actually had a story and shit :)

Unfortunately it was not very good either, but at least it was not as bad as I had expected.

Children of Men

I would rather smoke the hair from my armpits than ever watching this meaningless piece of wannabe-deep crap movie again.. The characters are so badly presented and developed that you don’t give a rats ass about what happens to them, The story itself is both lame and incredibly boring, painfully ended in a most dissatisfying way.

The only thing preventing this movie from getting a 0 rating is some pretty nice dystopian scenes and environment at the end of the movie.. But you’d be better off playing Half Life 2.

A scanner darkly

Against my better judgment I watched a Keanu Reeves movie last night. The only reason I saw the movie is because I remember Tim at Ctrl Alt Delete wrote something about it a few months back, and I must agree that the visuals were pretty interesting. Fancy animation to the side, lots of the acting and dialogs were really bland, and the story was kind of hard to follow trough the entire movie, much of it cleared up at the end, but the whole story was kind of disappointing.

The movie was not bad (as most movies I’ve seen lately), it just had a boring story and uninteresting characters :)

Might be worth the watch just to look at the animation style.

The Da Vinci Code

Friday, December 22nd, 2006

So I finally caved and saw the movie.. Don’t know if the book is better, but the story is so boring and the whole plot is so predictable and utterly retarded that I doubt the Book can be good if it is the same story. It was pretty obvious the woman was the descendant of Jesus from way early in the movie, and the whole crap was just so boring I almost fell asleep.

I don’t even get the main premise of the movie.. “a living descendant of Jesus (how the hell would this be proved with any certainty?) would make the Catholic Church loose power”, why would a relative of Jesus be BAD for them? I can’t imagine the Catholic Church’s power base disappearing anytime soon (1.1 billion members, seemingly idiots are in ample supply these days).

and there, finally the movie is over.. damn you Ron Howard.. you suck..

The movie gets a 24% at Rotten Tomatoes, that translates into 2.4 / 10 in my rating system, but I’m going to give it a rice round rating instead.

oh wait.. I gave Superman Returns 2 / 10, and at least he could fly and take a bullet in the eye.. that got to count for something

Superman returns

I didn’t even know that he left!

anyhow.. who writes this crap? If I wasn’t so damned lazy I would check IMDB and make a mental note to never watch anything by these writers ever again.
