Star Wars The Old Republic

Friday, December 23rd, 2011

I’ve been playing World of Warcraft on an off for over 5 years, before that I played Anarchy Online and Eve Online for a couple of years.

After that I got a lifetime subscription for Star Trek Online, which kinda turned me off MMO’s altogether :)

I’ve been playing a couple of the SWTOR beta weekends and got early access 6 days before release, and I’ve made it to level 30 so far (think there are around 10-20 lvl 50′s on my server (Scepter of Ragnos)).

And so far I must say… SWTOR is fucking awesome!

If you just gave me the game and let me play the first 10 levels (Starting planet), I would be 99% sure the game was made by Bioware. Unlike for example WOW where you just accept quest, go kill/collect and return, the quests in SWTOR are really amazing. The quest chains make up wonderful stories in classic Bioware style (Baldurs Gate, Neverwinter Nights, KOTOR, Dragon Age), and you can very often choose different ways to do the quest. The NPC voice acting also adds to your total immersion in the stories.

The class quest, which is a long quest line that follows your character between level 1 and 50, is absolutely brilliant, I’m playing as a Bounty Hunter and the story is comparable to a really good single player RPG. Also the companion system is great, and you get a really close connection to your characters, much more so than in KOTOR / Mass Effect.

Me and my kickass companion Mako

So far I can only judge the lvl 1-30 part of the bounty hunter class quest, but I’ve heard the other classes (which have totally different class quests) are equally good. So I’ll probably be making alts just to play the story lines.

The instances I’ve been in so far are all good, like the quests you can also affect how the instance unfolds by choosing dark side / light side.

I’m playing as a Bounty Hunter Bodyguard (healer), and the healing mechanic is really good, each time you use a healing ability you gain heat and you need to keep your heat level low and not overheat to be able to heal. This means you can heal forever if you manage your heat properly, but dealing with big damage spikes is a bit hectic (but very doable).

The graphics are really nice, although some people complain it’s too cartoony (mostly WOW fanboys it seems, which is ironic beyond belief). I’m glad the graphics is not realistic (skyrim, age of conan), I don’t think that would be a good look for this game.

I'm trying to be a ruthless bounty hunter, but Mako with her big puppy eyes makes it hard at times

So far I haven’t experienced a single disconnect (saw 2 lag spikes during 1 beta weekend, that lasted about 5 seconds), so for me the launch has been close to perfect. I came across 1 bug in a class quest, but the forum had a workaround.

I’m really looking forward to seeing what the end game is like.

To sum it all up in one sentence, “I’ve played many MMO’s, but I would say this is the first MMORPG I’ve played”

What the hell is he wearing?

Sunday, April 18th, 2010

We’ve kinda gotten used to the ridiculous hat big enough to hide an altar boy (too soon?)

Now somebody has dressed him up in something that looks a weird form of shoulder armor. This is obviously new territory for the Catholics, so they should learn from the experts in the field of over sized shoulder wear: Blizzard

Pope armor!

PS: Why would he wear a gigantic hat, but just a tiny cape? it makes NO SENSE!

Star Trek Online Open Beta

Tuesday, January 12th, 2010

Yay, tomorrow Star Trek Online goes into open beta :)

I’ve played around a bit in the closed beta, and so far I’m impressed, the space combat is fun and action packed, and the Ground combat is a bit like World of Warcraft, only more action, more interesting quests (no grinding, while waiting for drops) and the Fleet actions (Large open instances) were pretty awesome :)

I’ll miss my Andorian captain, who was wiped with all the other closed beta characters today:(

October gaming

Thursday, October 23rd, 2008

I recently tried out Warhammer online, and played a Bright Wizard to lvl12.

But I’ve decided not to start the subscription when my 1 month is up. I like the pvp part, and the pvp “battlegrounds” where fun, but not Altarac Valley fun. The fact that you can level up by doing pvp was pretty cool, but the quests and stuff didn’t really do it for me like World of Warcraft did.

It’s also a matter of time, I’m currently playing Ufo AI (a free game based on the old X-com games) and tomorrow I’m getting my Far Cry 2 copy.

I also recently downloaded the demo for a game called World of Goo which is really awesome and addictive.

Mooncloth set

Sunday, April 6th, 2008

I finally got the last piece of my Mooncloth set (The robe). I spent a fortune on leveling tailoring and getting the goddamn thing, but it’s finally there and I almost have 1500 heal now..

Easter

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

Damn, it’s already over.. Easter was way to short this year, it should have been three times longer.

What did I do this easter? not much, I left the house once to go to the store. The easter started by our water heater dying, so a new one had to be installed (Can’t wait for the bill :) ).

The rest of the easter was spent watching Buffy, Lost (I really really hate it) and some movies.

I also played a lot of WoW, and got two nice drops from Netherspite on the same run :) , and leveled my rogue from lvl26 to 35.

RIP Gary Gygax :(

Sunday, March 9th, 2008

Gary Gygax died earlier this week. The father of Dungeons & Dragons and modern RPG’s, without him there would be no D&D, Neverwinter Nights, or even World of Warcraft. He was a true gamer, who played from the age of 5 to his death at 69. He will be missed.

I fell of the wagon

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

It was only a matter of time until I started to play World of Warcraft again, and that time was around 1 week ago :)

Prince
Prince downed last week

I started playing with my lvl70 Priest Klogd, which I moved to the DragonBlight server, to play with some co-workers.

I also respecced holy, and got the Gladiator’s Salvation mace, so now I have +1100 healing and can raid in kara (The guild I’m in is only missing the last two bosses). I’m currently working on my tailoring skill and will have the mooncloth shoulders in around 2 weeks if using only my own mooncloth cooldowns. Need to farm 12 Primal Life’s and 4 primal waters until then.. + need to get some Netherweb spider silk so that I can level tailoring with imbued netherweave tunic’s :)

Chapter 2

Tuesday, October 16th, 2007

I probably wont play World of Warcraft for at least 6 months now, so tonight I picked up on my Neverwinter Nights 1 campaign and finished chapter 1.. I must say the story so far and quests are extremely well design and much more fun than what I have played of NWN 2.

NVN screenshot

I bought the box with both expansions, so I figure I have LOTS of playtime left :)

I really like the graphics, nothing fancy still they look very nice (and NWN is one of the few games I can run at 100% graphics with this old computer), I tried some NWN2 Roleplaying, but most scenarios are for NWN1 which I did not have at the time. I might try some more Roleplaying when I’m done with the main campaign (With my Orcish barbarian).

I also played some Resident Evil 4 (on the Wii) tonight, I almost got used to the controls even tough  I hate FPS games on consoles..

October update

Wednesday, October 3rd, 2007

Haven’t written many posts lately, so this is just a summing up post.

World of Warcraft
I ditched my tradeskills, Herbalism + Alchemy, and used LOTS of gold and time to get tailoring to 350, last night I made myself the Frozen Shadoweave Shoulders, which are pretty nice :) but I must say I’m pretty bored with Wow at the time, might have been grinding 100 motes of water that did it..
Also finally got the Masters Key, so I can now enter Karazhan.

Boat
I’m now on the waiting list to get harbor berth at the local sailing association.
Getting a spot will take around 1.5 -3 years or so, so I got plenty of time to save up for the actual boat :)

Work
The project I’m working on (Providing Real Integration in Multidisciplinary Environments) (hehe), is practically over so I guess I will get some new things to work on soon.
Also the 2 people I shared this office with left, one went to another company and the other moved to Oslo and will be working from there.

TV & Movies
Yay, Stargate atlants started up again last week, pretty exciting episode and I have really missed it.. Also Dexter season 2, and Curb your Enthusiasm started up again.
I saw the 28 Weeks later movie last week, it was much better than I had hoped for, and was a pretty decent movie. I also noticed there will be a new Wallace and Gromit movie soon (Trouble at mill)

Fuzzy wuzzy
We will be getting the newest addition to our family soon* (the little ferret, Cinnia’s Pinky Sophia).
* At the time of writing soon is defined as: in 9 days, 3 hours and 43 minutes
